Gladiators head to Semi-Finals at Treasure Island!

In a remarkable first season, Life West’s Rugby team, The Gladiators, won all ten of their round-robin games. The Gladiators play in the Northern California Rugby Football Union, division III. Throughout their ten games the Gladiators scored an impressive 608 points, while only having 105 scored against them.

The team consists of Life West students and a number of local Hayward rugby players.

Coach and chiropractor Dr. Tez Molloy says that “for a new team just getting started, this is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the players and support staff”.

Gladiators captain Travis Atualevao said “I am so proud of the boys and their commitment. Not only is this an achievement for them and the college, it is great for the Hayward community”.

The team will play semi-finals games over the next two weeks on Treasure Island and if successful they progress to regional finals in Boise on May 3 and Dallas on May 17. Continuing their successful run would have them competing in the USA National rugby finals in Madison, WI on May 31st.

Hoping for the best possible outcome, while not wanting to get too far ahead of themselves, the Gladiators face some new challenges with fundraising to get the team and officials to the playoffs. Their airfare alone will cost $33,000.

Any local people or businesses that would like to support the team can contact Coach Dr. Tez Molloy on 510.329.1769, or visit the team website at www.lifewestrugby.com

Come cheer on the Gladiators at their first semi-finals game on Saturday, April 19th starting at 1:00pm. They will be playing at the San Francisco Golden Gate Rugby Club located at 725 California Avenue, San Francisco, CA, 94130 on Treasure Island.
