New Mexico SB150

Recently, the chiropractic profession was at a crossroads precipitated by new legislature introduced in New Mexico. Bill SB150 proposed that chiropractors in New Mexico prescribe drugs as part of the scope of practice. The consequences of a law like this are very dangerous for the chiropractic profession as it shifts the brand into medical territory and could endanger chiropractic patients around the world.

The argument against this law is not just about a vitalistic philosophy of chiropractic. The concern is that it is a dangerous and misleading when a few attempt to use state law to change the definition of chiropractic. Chiropractic has 120 years as a drugless profession for a reason.

Together as one, Life West took a stand against SB150. We asked our community to voice their stance against bringing drugs into the profession by calling or writing to New Mexico legislators.

SB150 was “tabled” by a vote of 5/3 in the New Mexico Senate Public Affairs Committee on Tuesday, February 7th, 2017. (Tabled means it cannot move forward in the Senate.)

The college would like to thank everyone who stepped up for our profession. Our actions were noticed, and applauded by those in New Mexico who were also battling this bill.

Life West stood up, showed up, and our actions were pivotal.

Together, we can accomplish anything!
