New Technique Electives at Life West

Beginning this year, the technique department at Life West will be offering two new classes as electives. The new electives are Advanced Adjusting for the Physically Compromised Patient and Pregnancy and Pediatrics.

Department head, Dr. David Browning worked closely with the office of academic affairs to prepare these classes for launch. Browning says he has seen a need for and substantial interest in these special populations.

Pregnancy and Pediatrics: Students are often interested in specializing in the pregnancy and pediatric population. At Life West, all students get basic instruction in pregnancy care and pediatric care, but Browning wanted to offer more advanced options within the on campus curriculum. This new class will create an opportunity for our students to dig much deeper as part of the elective technique curriculum. A full term of specialized instruction will create more confidant and competent graduates. Look for this class in our curriculum this summer.

Advanced Adjusting for the Physically Compromised Patient: Chiropractors are regularly called upon to care for patients who cannot be adjusted in the traditional ways we are taught in school. We see patients who come to us in wheelchairs and walkers and have other health issues that make it impossible for the patient to assume the traditional position on the adjusting table. This class offers instruction to amend technique in order to provide care for this population without compromising the specificity of the adjustment. It also teaches students to better accommodate the variety of needs of this population.

Life West greatly values the importance of innovation and specialization in technique instruction. We pride ourselves in offering superior technique instruction in the core curriculum and aim to continue to grow that legacy through specialized options in a rapidly shifting practice environment.

We are planning on offering these classes every quarter based on the interest of the student body and the field opportunities for our graduates in the area of special populations. Other offerings are in development including an online portal that will allow students to research and investigate every elective offered in the technique department before making a decision or registering for courses.
