International Student Requirements

Life Chiropractic College West enrolls nearly 100 international students from all over the world. All students attend an international orientation on their first day, receive a quarterly newsletter especially for international students, and are kept informed of issues important to their stay in the U.S. by our international student advisor in the office of admissions.

International students may attend the College in F-1 (Student) status. Form I-20, a certificate which enables an applicant to apply for a an F-1 visa, can be issued when the applicant has been fully accepted for admission to Life West.

International students must meet the same admission requirements as domestic students. In some cases, an international student may be asked to provide the following additional documentation:

  • Proof of proficiency in the English language, if the student's first language is not English, then by either:
    • A computer-based score of 213, with a 21 in the Listening and Comprehension Section of the Test of English as A Foreign Language (TOEFL). Life West's institutional code is 4458; OR
    • A passing score on the Level 109 post-test from ELS Language Centers.
  • An evaluation of college/university courses is required if transcripts are not in the usual U.S. format showing the course name, number of units or credits earned, and a number or letter grade. We recommend World Education Services, Inc. Please request a Course-by-Course Report and have WES send it directly to us.

The Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) requires students to document financial resources for the first year, and estimate support for subsequent years, for educational and living expenses in the United States.

Financial resources may be available from a variety of sources — personal savings, parent or sponsor, student aid from your government, scholarships from other sources, and loans. Please see the Chris Smyer International Student Credit section of our financial aid page for detailed information & criteria on the Chris Smyer International Tuition Credit.

All of this information should be entered on the form “Financial Statement for Student's Seeking Non-immigrant Status” and sent to the Office of Admissions at Life West.
