The 64th commencement ceremony for Life Chiropractic College West took place on Friday, June 6th. Two classes, with a total of 54 students, walked across the stage to receive their Doctor of Chiropractic degrees. This graduation ceremony honored the graduates of the Winter 2014 class and the Spring 2014 class.
The graduation ceremony had all the festive trimmings of a momentous and ceremonial event. The auditorium was brimming with fresh flowers and flags from around the globe. There was inspiring live music from the Folsom Brass quartet and a song by current students, Monica Green and Aubrey Rivera. The faculty and administrators were present in full academic regalia to honor and witness the fine work of these graduates. The Life West auditorium was filled with family, friends, colleagues and mentors – all eager to celebrate this important day.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Jon Baker of Modesto, California. He shared his story of becoming a chiropractic patient after a severe spinal injury left him paralyzed from the waist down at age 15. He told how he was able to avoid major spinal surgery and made a full recovery with just the power of a chiropractic adjustment. He challenged the graduates to step into their own greatness as they “leave the eagle’s nest to fly on their own”. Dr. Baker welcomed them to the profession and offered to help the new graduates as they go out into practice.
Jackie Biron, who has organized 21 commencement ceremonies since starting at Life West explains, “It is always a bittersweet moment as I watch the graduates walk across the stage to receive their diplomas. I smile through my tears as each name is announced. I remember experiences that I’ve had with each of the graduates and I understand how hard they have worked to study, learn and progress in their skills to become a chiropractor.”
The ceremony culminated with each graduate crossing the stage to receive their diploma, the recitation of the chiropractic oath, and finally the students flipped their tassels from right to left as they officially became graduates of Life Chiropractic College West.
The newly minted Life West alumni are now ready to go out and change the world as Doctors of Chiropractic.
