Life West celebrates new graduates at commencement ceremony

The latest group of Life Chiropractic College West graduates was celebrated at Friday’s commencement ceremony on campus. 78 students crossed the assembly hall stage and were bestowed their degrees as friends, family and faculty members proudly looked on.

“Tonight is a very special evening, one that has been greatly anticipated by our graduates, faculty, staff and administration,” Life West President Ron Oberstein, DC, said in his opening remarks. “We are celebrating the culmination of years of study, tests, patient care and hard work by our graduates, and we can finally see the finish line.”

The 2019 Spring and Summer classes were front and center at the ceremony, and several individual students from those classes received additional honors. Tyler Terry and Danielle Kronk were honored as valedictorians, Kyle McGibney and Timothy Arena were recognized as salutatorians, and Braken Wooden and Sean de Lima Thiel were given Life West Presidential Awards.

“We got into this profession to put other people before ourselves,” Terry said in his speech. “What a blessing it was to go through this program with such a great group of people. This is a group that will impact the world and change many, many lives.”

“We’ve been inside these walls for three or four years, always together, learning and growing,” Kronk added in her address, which featured her explanation of how chiropractic care helped her following an accident while on horseback. “We are now doctors who are confident in finding and correcting subluxations in more and more people.”

The graduates were also addressed by guest speaker Bobbi Doscher, DC, who serves as president and CEO of the Oklahaven Children’s Chiropractic Center in Oklahoma City. Dr. Doscher has been recognized as a female pioneer within chiropractic, and among other accolades, she was honored as one of the twelve great women in the history of chiropractic in 1995.

“The greatest thing of all is gratitude, to be able to thank someone for helping you,” Dr. Doscher told the graduates. “I hope that you all take a moment and be grateful for all that have helped you. There are very few that truly give back to life, and in so doing, we become more gracious and more giving ourselves.”

After being individually presented by Life West Vice President of Academic Affairs Pardeep Kullar, Ed.D, the students were led in recitation of the Chiropractor’s Oath by Dr. Oberstein. They then turned their tassels in unison, and were introduced to the crowd of family, friends and loved ones as new Doctors of Chiropractic.

In addition to Friday’s commencement ceremony, a special banquet was also held Thursday on the Life West campus. Dr. Oberstein presented “Give, Do, Love, Serve” awards to graduates Lauren Davis, McKenzie Hollyoak, Wyland Luke, Sean de Lima Thiel, Hailey Hirata, Mark Samson, Nathaniel Rossi, and Regina Thompson. Additionally, graduates honored people vital to their success at Life West with TIC Awards, which recognize acts of service and support.
