Life West Men’s Rugby off to the National Semi-Finals

Rugby has a special place within chiropractic schools worldwide and this year men’s rugby has become the team to watch at Life Chiropractic College West. In their debut season, the Life West Gladiators have remained undefeated and are heading into the Division III USA National Rugby semi-finals.

Over the weekend in Boise, Idaho, the Gladiators faced their toughest matchup yet, going head to head with another undefeated team, the Budd Bay Buffaloes. The Buffaloes had every intention of ending the Gladiators excellent first season run. But the Life West side scored enough and held a strong defensive line to come up with the big win.

Life West President Dr. Brian Kelly commented, “This was an incredible achievement for a first season team. I congratulate the players, coaches Tez Molloy and Vicki Hudson, and all the support crew. The success of the team to date has brought a lot of awareness of Life West, and to chiropractic. I wish the team all the best during May as they look to win a national championship”.

The Gladiators will face another tough match up in quarterfinal play as they take on Dallas Athletic Rugby Club on their home turf on May 17. DARC went undefeated in league play and like the Gladiators, beat an undefeated San Antonio squad 19 – 13 to advance. Continued success would allow the Gladiators to compete in the Division III USA National Rugby Finals in Madison, WI on May 31st.

Off the field, the Gladiators face challenges in fundraising to get the team and officials to the playoffs. The airfare alone will cost $33,000. Any local people or businesses that would like to support the team can contact Head Coach Dr. Tez Molloy (510) 329 – 1769, visit the team website at www.lifewestrugby.com or the team’s GoFundMe campaign at www.gofundme.com/8jseig.
