Life West shines spotlight on employees during Black History Month

Meet some of the faculty and staff members from Life Chiropractic College West as the college continues to celebrate Black History Month.

Dr. Jamie Motley, MS, DC, DACBR, is a former student of Life West and has been a chiropractor since 2009. She is a full-time faculty member teaching Radiology. She became the only African-American Chiropractic Radiologist in the world in 2012.

Loretta Saunders is the Student Housing & Employment Coordinator. “My role as a Housing Coordinator is to assist all students (current and incoming) on housing options/referrals. I have been in this role for almost 6 years. When it comes to student employment, I help students find on and off campus employment. I am and come from a long line of strong black women and am very proud to be A STRONG BLACK WOMAN!”

Dominique Joseph says: “I’ve been a chiropractic assistant here at Life West for 2 years. A little fun fact to highlight my heritage is that my grandmother was the first in our family to become the top performing basketball star at Grambling State University.”

Mercy Higgwe is an Admissions Advisor at Life West. She says: “My family is originally from Nigeria and my mom came to the United States alone when she was 17, the first person in her family to travel outside of Africa. She was also the first to go to college and earn a master’s degree.”

Dr. Victor Asemota, MD, MBA, MS is new to Life West and teaches Biochemistry as a full-time faculty member. He is originally from Nigeria and has taught at various colleges in the Bay Area, including University of California-Berkeley and Mills College.

Delandro Leday holds the distinct title of office admin. He says: “My role includes answering of phones as well input of security data and student information in regards to attendance and access to the college. My heritage is of French/Canadian with African-American. My family comes from the state of Louisiana, and one fun fact about my last name is that it was changed over and over during the times when family members weren’t allowed to read or write and documentation was filled out by township members who were also unable to read and write.”

Dr. Darrell Blackburn, DC, graduated from Parker University in 2013 and is a full-time faculty member. He teaches Entrepreneurship, Embryology, Applied Philosophy, and two anatomy lab classes.

John Darwin is the Campus Security Officer and helps protect the campus. He has worked with the college for about 2 years. His grandmother was the first Black woman on the board of the Oakland Unified School District.

Cill Loggins is the Financial Advisor and has been with the college for 2 years. She works with incoming students, helping them to complete the financial aid process before starting the program. She is passionate about helping students and is diligent in making the process as seamless as possible for all incoming students.
