Life Chiropractic College West recently hosted the Tonga National Rugby Union team while on their visit to the Bay Area for the Rugby World Cup Sevens. During their visit, the team learned about the power of vitalistic chiropractic, with an eye toward implementing regular adjustments into their training schedules in the future. They were clinically assessed by Life West Director of Clinical Competency, Dr. Bruce Chester, Dean of Clinical Excellence, Dr. Tamara MacIntyre, and Sports Performance Institute Director, Dr. Scott Lessard.
“We have high performance, but with our program built on all physical training, there is a big need now to adjust the body, bones and nerves,” said Filo Akau’ola, Tonga Team Manager. “If we have this kind of care, I’m sure that our players’ high performance will improve.”
A Memorable First Adjustment Experience for the Tongan Team
On their tour of the campus, the team visited the Monte H. Greenawalt Health Center and the Sports Performance Institute. Several Tonga players and coaches received adjustments from Dr. Chester and Dr. Lessard. For most of them, it was their first experience of ever being adjusted.
“I wrote down a few notes about the school and this world of chiropractic”, Akau’ola said. “This is where we’ll head towards in the future.”
The Tonga National team was one of 24 nations to compete in the Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco. Life West Athletic Director, Adriaan Ferris helped coach the Tonga team to a 1-3 record in the Rugby World Cup Sevens. The Tonga National Rugby Union Team currently holds the #12 ranking in the world.
Tonga Minister of Health Also Visits Life West
Relations between Life West and Tonga were further strengthened when the country’s Minister of Health came to the campus recently. After a visit to Tonga by the Life West president Dr. Ron Oberstein and Athletics Director, Adriaan Ferris in April, Tonga Minister of Health, Saia Ma’u Piukala paid a return visit to the college on June 1st. During his time on campus, the Minister learned more about the chiropractic profession, toured the college, and was adjusted by President Oberstein.
Life West to Lead a Mission to Tonga
Life West College will be leading a mission for students to Tonga in December 2018 to help bring chiropractic to the Tongan community.
