Life West’s Director of Research, Monica Smith, Top Five Cited Paper

Life Chiropractic College West’s Director of Research, Monica Smith, has received recognition from the editors of The Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics for her research paper on “Aging baby boomers and the rising cost of chronic back pain: Secular trend analysis of longitudinal medical expenditures panel survey data for years 2000 to 2007.”

Smith’s paper was the top five most highly cited papers during 2014 and 2015. The research paper analyzed data from the longitudinal Medicinal Expenditures Panel Survey (MEPS) and evaluated the impact of the baby boomer population on secular trends in back pain and chronicity. It also provided estimates of treatment costs for patients who used only ambulatory services.

It’s very rewarding for a research scientist to receive the validation that their work is valued and is having an impact. In my field of health services research, a record of high citation means that the research meaningfully contributes to advancing the scientific discipline, and advances evidence-informed health policy and health care delivery,” says Smith.

Life West employs some of the most intelligent and hard-working staff and faculty. The college receives recognition from the chiropractic community for their dedicated faculty and staff as they move the needle in vitalistic chiropractic.
