COVID-19 Update: April 22, 2020

Life Chiropractic College West - Northern California

Return to Campus Timing: On April 10, the COVID-19 Taskforce Response Team committed to confirming and informing our Life West Community of our plans to reopen the campus 12 days in advance. While we anticipated by now being able to provide an update, due to the gradual measures to reopen California announced by Governor Newsom on April 14, the campus will continue to operate in distance mode until further notice. Once we hear more from the Governor on the state’s reintegration plan, we will let the Life West community know the timeline for reopening the campus.

To learn more about the six critical indicators the state will consider before modifying the Stay-at-Home Order, please view: https://www.gov.ca.gov/2020/04/14/governor-newsom-outlines-six-critical-indicators-the-state-will-consider-before-modifying-the-stay-at-home-order-and-other-covid-19-interventions/. We will keep you updated as we learn more.

Employee Update: Life West will continue to pay employees based on your regular work schedule approved by your manager. This was endorsed and approved by our President, Dr. Ron Oberstein. Vacation, PTO and sick time will continue to accrue during this time and will be reduced only when an employee has requested vacation/PTO and sick time. Any changes will be announced in a timely manner.

As we continue to shelter in place over the next few weeks, we remain thankful for the dedication of our employees and mindful of the health, safety and wellbeing of all our Life West community and the communities within which we all serve. We encourage you to stay home if you are ill. If you are worried or scared, please consider speaking to your manager or HR for guidance. Lastly, we continue to encourage everyone to regularly practice the following methods as set forth by the CDC and the County of Alameda:

  • Social distancing: six (6) feet or more away from others
  • Limit in person meetings, use Google Hangouts, Zoom, phone and other resources
  • Wash your hands frequently and be mindful of touching your face
  • Wear a mask when you are performing essential work in close proximity to others and when you are in public spaces
  • Continue to support and check in on one another, offer assistance, be thoughtful, respectful and kind

If there is a need for reasonable accommodations, to request a leave of absence or any questions or feedback we need to consider, please notify Human Resources at HR@lifewest.edu or call Tarsha Addison, Director of Human Resources, at (510) 320-0761. If you have payroll questions, please contact Mary Galli at mgalli@lifewest.edu.

Communications on an As-Needed Basis: The Taskforce will continue to communicate on an as-needed basis if and when new information is released. Please send in questions or feedback as that will be monitored daily.

As always, stay safe and up to date by checking the campus Voice online at lifewest.edu/campus-voice and checking your email daily for updates. If you have any questions or feedback you would like to share, please email us at Taskforce@lifewest.edu.
