COVID-19 Update: March 20, 2020

Life Chiropractic College West - Northern California

Life West Daily Communication: March 20, 2020

Dear Life West Community,

Urgent Financial Aid Update For Students: The Financial Aid and Business Offices understand the importance of having your financial aid refund check available on time for your living expenses. You are eligible for federal aid provided you will attend classes in the Spring 2020 quarter. At this point, we are planning to start the quarter remotely and participation in your online courses on Canvas is considered attendance. We are preparing for classes to be online on April 6th. Classes will resume on campus at the earliest on April 8th and possibly later depending on the State and County orders. We will follow up with more detailed information on this in the coming weeks.

In order to secure and receive your Financial Aid check, you must complete the form no later than Thursday, March 26th.

Stay at Home: Last night the Governor of California issued a “Stay At Home” order. This effectively expands the “Shelter in Place” order that we have already been under for Alameda County since Tuesday now to the whole state of California.

Health Center: The Life West Health Center is considered an essential service and will open as planned on Monday, March 23rd, 2020 with a reduced schedule, strict screening process to ensure safety, and greater cleaning and sanitizing measures. All interns, staff and Health Center faculty have been contacted and screened.  Only the patients that have an appointment and that have completed the screening process will be seen.

Level 4 Travel Advisory: Under a new Level 4 Travel Advisory issued yesterday the Department of State recommends all citizens avoid traveling internationally, pointing to the growing risk associated with COVID-19 outbreaks in other countries with mandatory quarantines and closed borders. If you choose to travel internationally, your travel plans may be severely disrupted, and you may be forced to remain outside of the United States for an indefinite time frame.

Work from Home: Life West is committed to helping our employees stay safe, engaged, and productive as we manage this crisis together. We are pleased to share a website that provides essential FREE training provided by Cornerstone Cares on various topics, such as: Helping you be productive while working from home; Promoting self-care; and, Support Prevention and Control of COVID-19. For additional information or to check out their programs.

As always, stay safe and stay up to date by checking the campus Voice online at lifewest.edu/campus-voice and checking your email for updates. Our next update will be on Monday 23rd, 2020.
