Around the world, Life West graduates are advancing the Chiropractic profession through leadership, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to our shared values. One remarkable example comes from Dr. Fernando Azevedo, Class of 2011, where a vision inspired at Life West has helped establish a new standard for Chiropractic education in Brazil. This historic achievement reflects not only one alumnus’s dedication, but also the enduring influence of the Life West community in shaping the future of the profession across the globe.
Expanding the Life West DNA: A Landmark Achievement in Brazil
Life after Life West has been a mission of transformation. Since graduating in 2011, my journey has been dedicated to one primary goal: elevating the educational and technical standards of Chiropractic in Brazil and South America. This past April, that mission reached a historic milestone.
A New Standard of Excellence
I am proud to share that, through my consultancy, we have successfully launched a new Chiropractic school in São Paulo. In a country where the healthcare landscape is dominated by physical therapy, with over 350,000 physical therapists compared to only 2,000 chiropractors, achieving professional distinction is a significant challenge.
The results, however, were beyond our expectations. The program received the maximum score from the Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC). Remarkably, the Evaluators, both of whom were physical therapists, concluded that the curriculum we presented is truly unique. They described it as “unlike anything they had ever seen in physical therapy” and recognized it as a “distinct profession.”
Shaped by Life West
This success is a direct reflection of the Life West DNA. The philosophy, the clinical rigor, and the deep understanding of the profession I gained in Hayward provided the blueprint for this curriculum.
My time at Life West didn’t just teach me how to adjust; it taught me how to represent Chiropractic as a sovereign and vital science.
By respecting all educational requirements while maintaining the purity of our professional identity, we are proving that Chiropractic can stand tall anywhere in the world.
A Legacy of Inspiration
As I take these next steps, I want to honor a mentor whose example I strive to follow every day: Dr. Gerry Clum. His leadership and vision for the profession have been my guiding light. I mirror my steps in his legacy, committed to ensuring that the next generation of Brazilian chiropractors practices with the same heart, integrity, and excellence that he has always championed.
The new program is set to welcome its first class in January 2027. I am deeply grateful for the foundation laid during my time at Life West. It gave me the tools to cross borders and create a lasting legacy for the profession in my home country. The future of Chiropractic in Brazil is bright, and it carries the spirit of our community into this new chapter.
