Jedi Scholarship

We have created the Life West the Chiropractic College, Justice, Equity, Diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) scholarship program to support, mentor, and encourage students from historically underrepresented populations in Chiropractic Colleges, and in the field of Chiropractic.

The program’s mission is to provide these students with the opportunity to attain their professional goals while at the same time, advancing justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in the field of chiropractic. By doing so, the College is committed to its own diversity and also committed that the field of chiropractic should expand to historically underserved communities.

The Goals of the JEDI Scholarship are to:

To foster an environment that values an increasingly diverse student body.
To increase the recruitment, retention, and graduation of a diverse student body; justice.
To develop and nurture student interest, involvement, and leadership in diversity, inclusion,and social initiatives at the college,and in the field of chiropractic.

Scholarship Criteria

To qualify for this scholarship applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria:

Be a first-generation college student
Be a member of an underrepresented or marginalized group (including but not limited to underrepresented ethnic populations, LGBTQIA, low-income, individuals with disabilities, etc.)

Additional Criteria:

Must submit a complete online application
Submit supporting documentation (optional)
Submit via online application two essays of 500 – 750 words each on the following topics:Essay 1: Write an essay (500 – 750 words) addressing how you have overcome personal, social and/or physical obstacles while pursuing an education and/or how living in an environment or academic setting that may have hindered your educational pursuits.
Essay 2: write an essay (500- 750 words) explaining what justice, equity, diversity & inclusion means to you and how you will foster it in the field of chiropractic.

JEDI Scholarship Details:

The JEDI Scholarship for Incoming Students covers 10% of the cost of tuition (excluding any Student Fees) each quarter to applicants who embody and advance the preceding goals.

A student remains eligible based on the loan renewal criteria outlined below.

The scholarship is awarded to up to 4 qualified students from the Fall 2024 Hayward campus incoming class who have been accepted to the Doctorate of Chiropractic program.

Scholarship Renewal Criteria:

The expectations of the Diversity Scholarship for Incoming Students requires commitment, time and effort while you are in school. Applicants should consider this when applying.

To maintain scholarship eligibility, you must:

Maintain a minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA.
Make satisfactory progress toward completion of the program
Scholarship maximum of 125% completion rate (i.e. If you are in the 14 Quarter program the scholarship will not exceed 18 quarters).
Participate in Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion programs/events and complete at least 20 hours of college-based service, engagement, and/or Admissions events (i.e. Discovery Weekend, PRIDE tabling, college fairs, etc.) or as a member of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee per calendar year.
Adhere to the other expectations outlined in the Diversity Scholarship Agreement.
Be a positive advocate and professional representation of the Life West’s Justice,Equity, Diversity and inclusion efforts.

Scholarship Financial Parameters

Students are only eligible for one multi term scholarship (exceptions: other tuition credit awards; for example, the International Student Credit). The total amount of any tuition credit/discount or scholarship awards cannot exceed the amount of tuition. The Diversity Scholarship Committee reserves the right to not award any scholarships if there are no qualified applicants. Committee members are Senior Director of Admissions, Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator, and the Director of Financial Aid
