peak potential logoThe Peak Potential Institute (PPI), founded by Drs. Martin Rosen and Nancy Watson, is a premier chiropractic education provider specializing in advanced techniques rooted in the principles of Sacro Occipital Technique® (SOT®) and the foundational work of Dr. Major DeJarnette. With a focus on spinal and cranial adjusting, PPI offers comprehensive programs for chiropractors seeking to refine their clinical skills and elevate their understanding of neurological function, structural biomechanics, and long-term patient care.

PPI is committed to building a community of chiropractors dedicated to clinical excellence, professional growth, and mastery of chiropractic technique. Through mentorship, hands-on training, and in-depth coursework, PPI helps practitioners deliver more precise and effective adjustments—ultimately improving patient outcomes and advancing the art and science of chiropractic.

The purpose of this Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to students who demonstrate exceptional passion for achieving excellence in the chiropractic art form. The Scholarship will award students who are pursuing excellence in clinical proficiency with a focus on chiropractic adjusting techniques.

The Clinical Excellence in Chiropractic Scholarship – one award of $2,500 will be granted for the Spring quarter and one for the Fall quarter. Funds for this scholarship were donated by Peak Potential Institute.

Scholarship Criteria:

To apply, students must be qualified to adjust outpatients, be in good academic standing, with no probationary or ethical issues outstanding, and submit the following:

  1. Essay: Excellence and Competence in Assessment of Subluxation and Spinal Adjusting (500 words maximum)
    How do you determine when, where and how to adjust a patient? How do you know that you have accomplished your objective?
  2. Video: Excellence and Competence in Assessment of Subluxation and Spinal Adjusting (20 minutes maximum)
    Show us how you check and adjust a patient, start to finish. Demonstrate competence and clinical excellence while remaining patient-centered, specifically focusing on technical application and skills in adjusting.
  3. Letter of Recommendation: Excellence and Competence in Assessment of Subluxation and Spinal Adjusting
    One letter of recommendation from a licensed chiropractor (ideally a faculty member) that describes the DC’s observations of the student’s patient care, considering use of clear indicators to determine areas of subluxation, rationale and critical thinking of how to determine what to do in a given visit, and sensitivity to patients needs.

Applicants for the Scholarship will be evaluated based on the following:

  • Passion for clinical excellence in chiropractic care
  • Excellence in clinical skills, including subluxation assessment and chiropractic adjusting
    • a clear system of analysis to determine if there are subluxations present or not
    • clear indicators to determine when and where to put a force into the spine
    • assessment of the impact they have made on the spine and nervous system
    • professionalism in all patient interactions
    • ongoing care plan recommendations
  • Technique proficiency with a focus on analysis and specific adjusting
    • Precision in spinal adjustments
    • Patient-centered care

Applicants for the Scholarship will be evaluated using the following metrics:

  • Demonstrated passion for clinical excellence in chiropractic care
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical skills and chiropractic adjusting, as observed by faculty or through clinic performance reviews.
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency with a focus on using advanced chiropractic adjusting techniques, including:
    • Precision in spinal adjustments
    • Patient-centered care in clinical settings
    • The use of clear criteria (indicators) to determine where to adjust, including but not limited to:
      • a care plan based upon the presence of spinal subluxations
      • a clear system of analysis to determine if there are subluxations present or not
      • clear indicators to determine when and where to put a force into the spine
      • assessment of the impact they have made on the spine and nervous system
      • professionalism in all patient interactions.
  • Qualified by Life West to adjust outpatients
  • Good academic standing, with no probationary or ethical issues outstanding

    • Satisfactory — 6 – 10 points
    • Needs Improvement — 0 – 5 points
  • Video – Possible 30 points:
    (Must show both analysis and adjusting skills to demonstrate a passion for clinical excellence in chiropractic care)
    • Accomplished — 23 – 30 points
    • Good — 15 – 22 points
    • Satisfactory — 7 – 14 points
    • Needs Improvement — 0 – 6 points

Top finalists will be asked to schedule a time during the week of March 9th, 2026 for the scholarship committee to observe them checking and adjusting a patient in real time.

  • Quality of Clinical Performance – Possible 50 points:
    (Technical proficiency and quality of patient care in a clinical setting)
    • Accomplished — 38 – 50 points
    • Good — 25 – 37 points
    • Satisfactory — 13 – 24 points
    • Needs Improvement — 0 – 12 points
  • Essay – Possible 20 points:
    (Specific evidence provided of how you determine when, where and how to adjust the patient)
    • Accomplished — 16 – 20 points
    • Good — 11 – 15 points
    • Satisfactory — 6 – 10 points
    • Needs Improvement — 0 – 5 points
  • Video – Possible 20 points:
    (Must show both analysis and adjusting skills to demonstrate a passion for clinical excellence in chiropractic care)
    • Accomplished — 16 – 20 points
    • Good — 11 – 15 points
    • Satisfactory — 6 – 10 points
    • Needs Improvement — 0 – 5 points

Deadline
  • Application Deadlines: All required documents must be submitted online by these deadlines. A Life West Scholarship committee will review/score the applicants based on the above rubric.
    • Spring Quarter: February 22, 2026 (Funds will be awarded for the Spring quarter).
    • Fall Quarter: September 1, 2026 (Funds will be awarded for the Fall quarter).
