“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 protects students from sex discrimination and sexual misconduct in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance. The US Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights (OCR) oversees the enforcement of Title IX compliance that holds educational institutions accountable for failing to respond promptly and equitably to incidents of sexual harassment.
